After a round of triumph & patience for checking out dim sums at Tim Ho Wan 添好運點心專門店, we decided to stroll on the streets of Mongkok for more sight-seeings of this area populated with multi-storey buildings with restaurants and other shops at street level and residential units above them.
Be amazed by their giant and colourful signboards all over competing for significance, be it advertising for retails, restaurants or entertainment.
A map to mark down the eateries and this would give you a rough idea where the streets are and how is it connected. Please click on the map to ENLARGE
Lunch Time!
Where to settle down?
Good Hope Noodle 好旺角粥麵專家 @ Fa Yuen Street 花園街
This shop was rather spacious compared to other typical HK eateries. It’s a norm in HK to be served with a cup of hot/ lukewarm tea when you’re seated. Well, it’s definitely meant for drinking but I’ve seen the locals at our next table using it to wash/rinse their chopticks and spoons. So we did the same. Haha.
And ordered Coke to quench thirst – right choice for summer at HK
Braised Noodle with Stewed Beef Brisket 柱侯牛腩捞面 – HKD36 (RM14)
The sauce drenched over was very flavoursome and the stewed beef brisket was soft and not too chewy. Noodles were springy with slight crunchiness too. A good option 🙂
Noodle with Beef Ball in Soup 爽口牛丸面 – HKD24 (RM9.30)
You could actually taste heavy alkali from the noodle when they are drenched in the soup.
Beef balls were bouncy but Chris still prefer the version form our locals: Ngau Kee & Soong Kee

Just a small insight into Fa Yuen Street & Sai Yeung Choi Street South since we happened to drop by for Good Hope Noodle
Fa Yuen Street 花園街
Don’t be surprise when you see a stretch of shops retailing sportswear & equipment as this street is also known as Sportswear Street. It is located parallel to Ladies’ Market. This area could be a good option if you’re in the mood to shop for sportshoes and sportswear.
Sai Yeung Choi Street South 西洋菜南街
This is a hot spot for local shoppers which is also located parallel to Ladies’ Market in between the market itself and Nathan Road. This street will eventually lead to Argyle Street (section south). Here, you’ll find electronic products and cosmetics shops (e.g Bonjour, SASA) too!
Tea Time!
Sakurashima Bakery 櫻島麵包餅店
Just came right out from the oven!
This bakery caught our attention when the desire to have a bite on HK’s egg tart drops by the right time. Plus, we just couldn’t resist the aroma from the pastries brimming out from the shop.
Egg Tart with flaky pastry base 酥皮蛋挞 – HKD2.50 (RM0.97)
Egg Tart with Buttery/ Cookie base 曲奇蛋挞 – HKD2.50 (RM0.97)
We had both. Initially we thought that this might be just another ordinary bakery shop but to our surprise, their egg tarts were very memorable. This is recommended at the openrice.com too.
Soft and smooth egg custard filled the pastry base generously. The flaky type were layered crisply and the cookie base tasted really buttery almost like eating a cookie topped with eggs.

“good hope noodle” … love that name!!! 😀
Hong Kong ppl emphasized a lot when it comes to naming their restaurants like Tim Ho Wan (for good luck) and now this good hope. haha
The tarts were so good which I usually kill 6 pcs in front of Hotel TV. XD
yea definitely 🙂 love it esp when it’s just out from the oven. the aroma…. yum
those egg tart pics had me drooling… and love those old school cola bottles.. wish they would still use them instead of the can!
We also felt that it’s somehow ‘tastier’ when drinking from the old school bottle 😉 haha
Why they like to serve the soup noodle in such small bowl? >.< Always watch this in TVB drama =.="
yea..haha.. i wonder that too when I watched it on TV.
It’s called ‘sai yong’ i guess 😉 but the portion is definitely not small
I can not say what I think , because after seeing all these delicious things I have no thoughts in my head except”When will come dinner time?” 🙂
